MY CRITIQUE ON OTHERS' WORKS

I really like the textures, volume and colors in the first image (waves). I would recommend to post a full picture of this work as well, not only this detailed part. I think it is great, that you tried to work with symbolism (white paper as a symbol of a person) and use to reflect on social problems. Interesting, that you write about your personal experience and feelings while doing the piece. However, in my opinion, without the explanation it would not be easy to understand, what the work is about, so maybe there should be something figurative in it (as your sketch with the woman's body, which I find amazing visually)

I find it really interesting to see, how personal is the first image. Great, that you can educate people from other places about your culture and background, your traditions with your art. Also I like that there are no drawings of dumplings (which would be obvious from the title), you have a much more intriguing and not so strait forward approach.

I love how thoughtful you are reflecting on your own works, there are some very deep ideas in this text. It is very precious that this project changed your understanding of destruction and you perceived it in a symbolic way (in the first art work, for example). Also I find your works really eye catching, because the color palette works really well, it is contrasting, I as a viewer really want to spend time exploring your images and seeing all the details.

Your works are really "touching" and emotional for me and I think it means they are successful. I appreciate, how you showed your vulnerability, your deep feelings, that we are used to hiding, in these works and I really feel "attached" to them. In the 1st piece visually I love the play with contrasts, opposites: lipstick as a sign of a feeling that you might still have and fire, burned holes as a sign of something damaged, destroyed, forgotten. The second one, for me, is less successful in evoking emotional response, as it is not so laconic and "relatable", but it is also exciting visually, as you play with layers, textures and colors.

If you are interested in collaging and different ways to create layers on the work I recommend you to explore Chris Ashworth's practice - it is much more graphic and minimalistic, than yours, but he uses some very exciting techniques.

I think you gained a lot of new helpful experience working on this project - great, that you have tried to work without a careful plan and too much thinking and enjoyed it. The skill of going with the flow in art is a very useful and important one, I believe. Visually I find both images interesting. The first one looks nostalgic and personal to me, as it resembles some old collection you can find at home, some family tradition maybe. The second one is really contrasting and catches attention, which is nice.

I really appreciate, that you share your personal experience of destroying your works, your emotions. It is amazing, that you were able to show your own painful feeling through this illustration and destruction of it. Your image conveys this pain and stress very well, because of the color combination, minimalistic style and clear association with blood.

I appreciate, that you share your feelings and emotions about the process of destruction. I think it is great that you were able to see your work from a new angle and reconsider it, I think you will be much more open-minded and "free" in your future practice as well. Visually I think this layering looks really original and eye catching, it is contrasting (traditional realistic art and graphic simple tape marks). I love it!

I find both of your works thoughtful, original and really personal, they evoke emotions in me. The second one is absolutely amazing in terms of how deeply did you think about the issue of alcoholism and how you tried different ways of representing it visually. You use 3D materials, maybe even some found objects and it is really unusual itself I think, great, that you try so many techniques and processes. I really felt a lot while looking at your piece and reading the story behind it, which means it is very successful. The sculpture does look really fragile and damaged, which perfectly symbolizes the way a person feels when recovering from addiction. Thank you for this work!
