Kava Bowl - Hawaiian islands 1770's

This Hawaiian bowl was probably used to hold a drink called kava. it is a bowl with two carved figures out of Kue-wood with an accent of pearl shell and bores tusks to add features to the figures. it was found in the late 18th century in the Hawaiian island of Kauai in a field. once again drinking is one of the social aspects of this design with the wooden round shape initiating a coconut shape. I personally would find the cup rather difficult to drink out of without all the liquid going everywhere as there is a bigger surface area. however this object could still be used to this day as the way of drinking hasn't changed dramatically through the years we just have a smaller vessel to drink out of, because of the sustainability issues that are being talked about more this would be better as a cup as wood isn't a finite resource and doesn't create lots of carbon dioxide like making and moulding glass does. In modern-day, this cup could be reinvented by making it smaller and able to store easier in smaller spaces by sizing down the figures and the surface area of the actual bowl part.
