Week 7 Monday textiles

This was a good project for me. I enjoyed working with a group however I feel like the group was quite big for me, I found myself kind of taking a step back which I'm not used to but I think despite not playing a role in the concept or initial set up of the pieces I contributed well in the later stages in my opinion. The flurry of 2 minutes drawings was nice to loosen me up as I think the more drawings you do the less precious you treat them. I think this is where I made my best work of the day. All the group drawings went really well in my opinion. A few felt a bit chaotic especially when we were using very bright, contrasting colours. Other people's work varied too, I think you could see the difference between those that commited fully to the experimental mentality of the proccess and those that didn't, with their pieces not having quite the same dynamic and energetic feeling. I feel like by the end of those drawing I was fully committed to the project and my work reflected that. In terms of developing my work I loved when we did a messy drawing and then worked into it with detail. Also colour had allot of impact on the success of the pieces particularly the contrasts in saturation was working really well (particularly with the use of highlighters) I think I could of considered this more in my drawings.

When making the installation a similar thing happened to me where every one was so decisive and had such a clear vision that I just kind of let them do the majority of it. I still made a good amount of it but I think I need to learn to be still focused and actively thinking about ideas even when there are lots of others doing the same because I might be able to contribute something small that makes the difference between a good and a great piece. The acetate piece was weird for me, I just couldn't picture what the projection would do and we were the first group to do it so I just wasn't getting any ideas. I tried to see what it would look like to not use a permanent marker and use a pen that doesn't fix to the plastic folder. I didn't like the result because the drawing was already messy and I couldn't work out a way to make it work.

Overall I feel like I made good work today, it sucks that I weren't able to make the most of the projector but I have no regrets.
