Mountain Ghost

Inspired by improvisational music, I intend to explore communication without spoken words. Each language has its own cultural background, perhaps its own unique sound. I see music as a language itself, the voice an instrument.

I am depicting a story from my own culture, in the language of sound, in the vocabulary of experimental, free improvisation.

‘鬼’, ‘Guǐ’, or ‘oni’ (Japanese) is usually translated as ‘Ghosts’, the ancient character resembling a monster-like creature. ‘Guǐ’ is a vague existence, a god without formal position. ‘山鬼’ is mountain god, existing as master of the mountain, but unable to escape the fate of living and dying with the mountain.

‘Mountain Ghost’ was a part of group exhibition ‘Nourish Me’, on stage of Amersham Arms, performed by Bianco (vocal, multi-instrument), Corey Lyu (Percussion), Zhuyang Liu (Guzheng), March 15^th2022.

Bianco: London and China-based artist, jazz and experimental vocalist. Now studying BA Fine Arts (Year2) at Chelsea. ‘The voice itself is an instrument’.
