Tuesday, March 7th Workshop with Plaster

In my research I found carved neolithic rocks in small shapes like balls from Scotland, and from Orkney Islands. They are from around the neolithic period. They all date around 5,000 years ago. They're all quite small, fit in the palm of your hand, and their purpose is quite a mystery. Simple theories range from projectiles to predictive devices and more. Their geometric proportions are amazing! ranging from octahedron, icosahedron, dodecahedron, tetrahedron, and cubes. For our Tuesday workshop, we had the opportunity to work with plaster again. I wanted to use some existing stones I had to imprint shapes into something, that way I could cast with plaster. I asked Shane what would work best and he suggested the clay. I used both clay from the workshop and air dry clay. I crushed up some chalk to mix into the plaster and poured them into the clay. When they dried, I had some very cute little stones that I can then easily carve.
