I felt like smacking someone

Something real funny happened on the communications rotation. I got a snarky remark after asking help from a tutor. They thought that I was asking for physical help, but then I explained that I needed their thoughts and opinion about my project. Considering that this tutor likes to take jabs at other students works, they had quite a positive review on mine. Instead they took a jab at me, saying that I should stand next to my sculpture, because of how much anger I had in my eyes. As much as I wanted to smack the living day lights out of them, there was some truths in the critique. I did have anger in my eyes. They also mentioned that they couldn't see my work properly because of how it was placed, and that was a big mistake on my part.

Another time when a tutor very much irked me, was on the art rotation. They told a friend of mine that our group was boring, and I was not pleased at all. What pissed me off even more is that she then proceeds to give endless compliments about a curve on a mattress placed on a wall. Now I am not disregarding the artist who put the mattress on the wall, and I'm sure the compliments were fully deserved. But after sometime cooling down, I did see a point in "structured critique". It was kind of lame.

What did I learn from this experience:

Critiques can be such a pain, but most of the time they are very helpful
Instead of bringing your self down after a bd review, proceed to better yourself and your craft
My mind set has changed from the beginning of the course

I would like to further explain point 3. I came into foundation knowing what I wanted to do, thinking to myself that I had very thing down. Now I know how wrong I was. What I'm doing right now I will never perfect, because it's a life time of learning and getting better at it. I use to be obsessed with perfection that I forgot to explore. Finding and learning new things is what makes art exiting, and I have come to realise that. A critique to my work was like a jab to the heart. Now I have thicker skin, and I am able to accept critiques better now. Instead of getting a mental breakdown, I take it into consideration. My opinions and idealisms are also starting to get stronger. I've realised this after disagreeing with other people, in a structured manner of course.
