I have really been slacking. I am struggling to find the motivation to get me to sit and research. I think some of the contexts don’t really interest me and so I am lacking the will to read about it online. However, today, I tired to get my life in order and actually sit and do it.

It was interesting as I managed to find some strange facts about seduction. I really enjoyed doing the ethical side of seduction. I already knew some philosophical theories about ethics and so I tired to apply to seduction. I do not think a lot of philosophers have commented on seduction due to it’s taboo. I am not too sure whether I can derive a design idea from it however. Just because it is more literature than design. It also got a little complicated. I don’t think there is a definite answer with whether or not seduction is ethical or not which would make it kind of difficult to base a piece on. Who knows, maybe with time, it might be clearer. My favourite theory was how sedcution is like hypnosis. It is suggestive rather than forceful.

Looking at Medieval Europe and Hinduism’s ideas on sexuality and sensual pleasure was really intriguing. The dramatic differences were amazing. In Medieval Europe it was absolutely frowned upon but for Hindu’s it was encouraged with the Kama Sutra. It really comes to shows different cultural contexts. Some cultures made it seem like a very taboo and rebellious thing, but everyone did it behind closed doors. Other cultures, made it seem as though reaching that kind of pleasure was very important and was the person’s free will whether they practised sensuality or not. Two different takes on seduction.

What really surprised me was the Political Contexts. I could not believe that seduction was a crime in America in the 19th century. It just did not make much sense. They had to really go through details to understand what seduction was illegal or who was seduced or even if they were really seduced. Seduction is so complex and so to make it a crime just made little sense. Regardless, a very interesting take on seduction and the ethics behind it. Clearly if it was illegal, it was also unethical. Analysing the political figures was also very surprising. I really did not expect to like researching politics. But a lot of what I found made a lot of sense. I could base it on a certain political figure’s seduction to power. That could be quite cool.struggling with is the artists and designers It would be heavily narrative based and personal to a persons’ story.

What I have been really struggling with is artists and designers. For some reason, seduction is not a common theme to occur in jewellery or other practises. This is making it a little hard to actually find inspiration or ideas of where to being, I am finding a lot of lover gifts that were historical but I am not finding a lot recently. Maybe romance is a little dead.

I have two days to complete all the work so I am a little stressed. I am going to try to finish everything by tomorrow and on Sunday, continue reading and completing the mind map. My actin plan last week could have really worked if I stayed with it but I did not which was probably really stupid.
