primary research - Royal Djurgården Park

Royal Djurgården (meaning ‘animal park’) is a national Swedish city park in the heart of Stockholm.

Three summers ago I had the opportunity to visit a friend in Stockholm, and I was amazed by this forest next to Stockholm University Campus. It really was the first time that I saw a forest this big and beautiful, smack-dab in the middle of a city. Growing up out in the countryside of Canada I am used to seeing forests but nothing that's so central.

My friend that I had went to visit years ago is still studying there and was able to capture photos of the forest but this time in the winter. It was really interesting to me how things appeared to stay the same after so many years, and in a completely opposite season. Despite the thick coat of snow, the forest appeared to stay similar to what I remember and what I can dictate from the photos.
