Finding a set of shelves

I knew that for the installation I would need a set of shelves to display the 'lost' objects. I researched on Freecycle in my local area and found some...

They were completely too heavy though! So I went on a walk around Kentish Town and Camden Road... there are often things in people's from gardens as a lot of people are renovating.

In the end I found this hurray!

And I had to transport it via skateboard...

Making Fran and Kit's Scandinavian Christmas decorations

So one of the lost things I re-made was a set of Scandinavian Christmas decorations. Here is a picture that Fran sent me:

This wasn't a very clear image so i looked online. This was one image which showed the bird decoration clearly:

I made them out of reclaimed cardboard.

download.php?file=903956&embedded=1&textbox=903930

I covered it with tissue paper, paint and glue which I already had.

I added scrap ribbon and wool.

Making Magdalene's lost gloves

I found a pair of old gloves on Ebay which resembled the ones I was recreating. I also looked into scrap leather but decided it would be too time consuming to actually make gloves from scratch and the leather I found was too think anyway.

I found some scrap lace off a wedding invitation and attached this as the lost gloves had lace on them like this.

Making my knitted wrist warmer

I found some wool in an Oxfam charity shop and used this to remake the lost hand warmer.

Making Ruth's lost ring

This ring was originally made out of a spoon. I went to find an old spoon at Camden Market, and then I used the metalworking workshop to make it into a spoon. Here is a tutorial I found on the web.

Making Kate's lunch

One of the lost items was a cheesy pasta lunch that was left on the train. I made this pasta and put it into a recycled tupperware box - I late ate it before it went off!

Yum! well kind of... might add more cheese next time!

Making Jenny's pearl earring

For this I found an old bead of a similar size, I scratched some of the paint of a second bead and covered the holes in the bead with it and stuck it to an earring back which I cut to the right size.

Remaking Beth's travel diary

Beth sent me info about what the diary looked like and also some blog posts she wrote from around the same time:

https://merlinslittlefriend.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/the-journey-continues/

https://merlinslittlefriend.wordpress.com/2012/10/10/a-tale-of-five-rivers-and-one-more-addition-to-the-little-book-of-nails/

To do this I bought a diary made of recycled paper and decorated it.

download.php?file=904186&embedded=1&textbox=904193

download.php?file=904190&embedded=1&textbox=904193

I visited a friend who went to Nepal too and too photos of her bus tickets etc. She also gave me some old Nepali money I could use.

download.php?file=904198&embedded=1&textbox=904193

download.php?file=904205&embedded=1&textbox=904193

I photoshopped the names and dates and printed them on recycled paper.

download.php?file=904214&embedded=1&textbox=904193

I printed some photos and also wrote the diary trying to imitate the handwriting sample Beth had sent me!

download.php?file=904218&embedded=1&textbox=904193

So most of these materials were recycled, and I will be giving all of the items to the people who originally lost them (except Kate's lunch which i will eat because I can't post it!). So they won't go to waste...

the set of shelves is being used for an exhibition at collage, after that I could use it at home.

For good pictures of my finished items see my reflective journal.
