3.3.20

I started my prints by trying just to explore textured backgrounds to maybe work on in future. I really liked using the brush to create beach waves, to relate it back to the channel. I then developed it further by adding my stencils which I made from create marks when looking at my images and the cutting them out. I wanted to over lap them in a way and then separate them to show us leaving the EU. I found this challenging to know when to place them and make the patterns interesting. Some of them came out interesting but some didn't work, which showed me that I shouldn't add to much paint to  my palate or they just go mushy.

4.3.20

For my day of I wanted to start to try and focus on the Brexit side of my project. I am struggling to actually think on how to portray this message across of separation. So instead I thought the best way I could start would be working with a newspaper because thats were everything is communicated and all the daily news is shown. I bought one and wanted to incorporate the ocean marks such developed that on top of the newspaper. Then I had ago weaving with them, twisting the paper to the show the tension of Brexit and then just exploring stitching. I liked it because it looked like a map and the oceans but I would have liked to have developed that idea further.

6.3.2020

first ones: happy with the blocked colours, communicate separation and the lines of the channel

second ones: too intense and got ripped

GOALS FOR NEXT WEEK :

1.make my sketchbook have more first hand images in.

2. make it less second hand research and include first hand research.

3. try and focus more on Brexit

10.3.2020

I started the day by cutting out images of the sea, and I found when doing that the outside of the image was really interesting to look at and created an interesting pattern. So then Katie mentioned this artist called Ana Teresa who creates weaves within images, so I thought I could have ago at doing that. I also wanted to incorporate various different surfaces such as materials that I have gathered from when I visited the channel. One of which was plastics so I thought I would have a go at weaving with that. I also wanted to play with the textures so I thought I could heat press it. Then having done that, we had to pass are weaves onto are partners and they had to try and improve it. In which she mentioned that I could create loads of them. So I photo copied them and looked at them on a larger scale. In future I would like to maybe look at them as models, such as round water bottles. However, I do like the larger scale of them because they remind me of the repetitions of the sea, also the waves. I don't like the way they look to abstract would like to create some more like Ana's which are less conceptual.

FINAL OUTCOME :

HAND KNITITNG DAY

on are hand knitting day we learnt how to incoperate three different materials into the knit. This was really interesting because then we had to hand it to are partner to do. Then having done this with are partner place it on the body and then draw it. I tried to just use blue to relate it to my colour palette. I really liked the colour scheme of mine, however I would have liked to explored more on how I placed it on the body. In future I would like to explore creating them on a larger scale.

TARGETS

Like to incorporate more on Brexit, I have really struggled to look at that.

Create larger scale work.

MARK MAKING - 23/03/2020

During this task I wanted to look at the marks that I see from my images. I also wanted to start developing some of my previous work that I had created. I felt my strongest work and the work I was extremely happy with was the collages that I did, when exploring the worlds of collage of and different marks. SO I wanted to develop that further. I really liked the work I did because it reminded me of the seperation of the counteries and then the marks separating them. However, in furture I would like to explore different shapes and marks.

KNITTING

I wanted to explore knitting with pencils, whilst looking at Ana Terera's work. I didn't have the sources and materials to use knitting sticks so instead I used pencils. I also preferred the effect whilst using the pencils, because I could make the thread drop and create more texture. In furture I would have liked to have developed this more to create a composition but I didn't have the material. Furthermore, I would have liked to make it on a larger scale including an image of the channel like ana does.

FINAL SAMPLES

For my final samples I wanted to focus on what I have really from the start of the project, abstract shapes. This has been a process I looked at from the start and wanted to follow through it. Looking at artists such as Matisse and many more. I felt it communicated the message I wanted the separation of the counteries but also how I didn't agree with Brexit and the separation of the channel. So I used the lines to communicate how I want them to come together. Then using the cut outs to show how they have been separated. I feel this really communicates what I wanted and had come from trying many different techniques out. In future I would have liked to explore these on an even larger scale but due to the current circumstances it is extremely hard to obtain such material. I feel I have learnt a lot from this process. I would also in future would have liked to have developed the Brexit idea more but I found it hard to show in my work.

25.2.20

I then wanted to explore some artists who focuses mainly on marks and designs. I was really inspired by  Juliana Carolan's work, due to the simplicity of the marks. I liked how they were just single marks and they created a repetitive cool design. It also reminded me of the shapes within the sea. I then tried to apply this to my work. I looked at the marks I saw within my images, and created repetitive lines which created an interesting design. However, I didn't like how they wasn't huge amounts of contrast. I would have liked to have added more blocked out colours.

25.2.20

To the left and the right I have explored some more designs, this time looking at an artist called Minnie Pwerle and Carrison Tanton. I really liked the illustrations that Tanton did so I tried too replicate it with my own images, as well as playing with collage. This I thought looked like the comic books that are displayed on Brexit. Having explored all these drawings and relating them to the Chanel, I would like to explore more background research about the channel, and also communicate the message more clearly that it is the separation of the countries. I haven't really communicated the message of Brexit yet, so I need to explore that more when working with further work. Lastly, I now want to start exploring it with colour.

25.2.20

I wanted to start my drawings by just looking at the marks within my images. I wanted to cut up my first hand images into sections, looking at lines of the waves that I could see and try and place them in an interesting way. I then wanted to from those images looking at the shapes and marks that I found. I drew the lines that I saw when cutting out the images. In future I would have liked to have maybe explored this idea further with colour, and also creating a contrast between darker and lighter parts.

4.3.20

Having then created my prints I wanted to develop them further. I firstly added some pen to show the marks I could see and reminded me of the shapes you find In the sea. I am not very happy with this print on the right because I feel it is to busy. However, I also do like it because it think it does show the shapes clearly.

4.3.20

Having then created that print above and not being very happy with it because I thought it was to busy I then looked at some of the shapes I got from cutting out that print above. And these three pieces came about and I thought they could be displayed separately to show the message of the separation between the various countries. I also liked how much more simple it was. I thought it told so much more,  then when it was too much.

4.3.20

I then wanted to find an artist who looked at abstract forms, because that is what I gathered from the collage above. I found Cyra Poster who creates interesting collage through print. They reminded me no only of the shapes in the sea, the marks she also used reminded me of the repitive behaviours you find in the sea such as the waves. I then wanted to explore just using crayons and pen to try and create the shapes I saw from my images. I also focused on my colour palette, I picked colours that I represent with Brexit, such as the England flag colours. In future I would like to develop these further, by maybe exploring these drawings in print.

LOOKING ABSTRACT SHAPE COLLAGES; SEPARATION THROUGH BREXIT BEING COMMUNICATED

WEAVE DAY:

10.3.2020

To the left and down is when I photocopied the weave and wanted to work with it on a larger scale, also looking at the marks I can see within the photocopy. I found when I photocopied it I could see more interesting marks especially within the print, such as the wave like lines. I warned to explore looking at them within them, so created some textured marks. In future I would like to create these. on a larger scale.

COLOUR SCHEME:

looking at different colours I associate with the ocean.

then translating it into weaves.

Using materials such as plastic bags to explore the things that I picked up from the channel.

HAND KNITTING DAY:

EXPLORING IT IN DIFFERENT WAYS

25.2.20

I found an artist who created this interesting installation type designs, which really interested me. This is because I thought the marks looked like the waves in the sea. Also they reminded me of connections, which I am trying to communicate within my work, because I wanted to show that we can all still be in the union. So that really inspired me because I thought the message was very clear.

FINAL OUTTCOME:

5.3.20

I wanted to focus on colour and the marks I could see. So I found an artist called Adam Reid. I really liked the gestural marks he made, so I looked at my images and try to look at the marks and shapes could seen the channel and then develop a pattern. This in furture I would like to develop maybe in print.

5.3.20

The image below I was also looking at marks of Adam Reid but this time the objects you would find at the channel such as shells. So I created a pattern, which I really like because of the various contrast of shape and sizes.

LARGER SCALE WORKSHOP 24.03.2020

I have put this collage next to the collage i did early on in this project, however, this one that have done is on a much larger scale. I prefer the larger scale one I think it shows the shapes in more depth, and also I have used more explorative materials. I would like to in the future create a collection of them.
