Today I went to go see the National Theatre's new Musical production Wonder.Land. I deeply enjoyed this modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland which was visually stunning in its Set Design, lighting and particularly it's costumes. Although the themes explored in this play weren't particularly relevant to what I wish to achieve in my final outcome their were certain aspects that have inspired me with several ideas for my short film. First of all I loved the way the fantasy world of Wonderland was bright and colourful where as reality was depicted only in black, white and grey. I feel I could use this contrast in colour to oppression vs freedom in my film. Secondly one of the fantasy characters in the plays head was a balloon who is killed when it's popped. I thought I could manipulate this idea in my short film by using balloons to represent my character's souls/life being destroyed by popping them.
