Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

One of my chosen themes is Natural form and from this I was looking at flowers and their relevance in this world. Between 17 July and 11th November 2014 the Tower of London was flooded with an art installation of 888,246 ceramic poppies to commemorate the soldiers that died in the First World War. It is estimated that over five million people visited the memorial and I was one of them.

From a far it looks like a red sea that is flowing out of the building but as you walk close to it you realise that it is handcrafted ceramic poppies. I was mesmerised by its overall composition and the huge crowds. I think that this was the most beautiful and respectable way to honour the soldiers especially knowing the fact that the people who placed the poppies are volunteers.
