I really enjoy looking at Richard Serra's work, it is so clean and minimal yet also extremley complex at the same time. I think his sculptures work best outside mixed with everyday buildings becuase they manage to blend in yet stand out. The rust orange colour works as an urban cameoflage however the beautiful and striking shapes juxtapose the standard buildings that surround them. I particularly like his scupture 'band' as it feels like it has a direct purpose, it reminds me of a strange maze as even though it is not that complex I feel like I could be lost in it quite easily, or I could hide within it. This is simular to the reaction I had at the Fulcrum as from the outset it just seemed like an obstrusive piece of public art, however there it formed a secret hole inside almost like a giant teepee. The combination of this and the firm and durbale metal made it seem like a protective fort or a prison, depending on how you looked at it. It gave the this idea public art with a purpose and a double purpose at that...
