- The colours in the bruises link back to the colour of the sky    - The skin is altered visibly hurt through a drastic change of colour   - faded colours would be interesting to represent with watercolor   - very representative of anorexia, when the body becomes very thin skin bruises really easily.

- relevant to the initial image about a african dictator diamonds is a wealth of numerous african countries ( blood diamond war) - ultimate symbol of something precious a good way to represent the organs of the body as something essential to his proper functionnement. - the idea is that I want to alter visually the wealth (the diamonds the emeralds, the wild animals...) contained in the castle to metaphorically show the damage the illness is doing to the body using the consequences of anorexia like : bruises, osteoporosis, apparent veins..

- Dancing is viewed as a way to express emotion - communication between mind and body as a translation   - get away from problems using a very instinctive and spontanious activity creating a transe like feeling.  - relevant to personifiy the idea of denial going on in the child mind.

Dancing and wasting away like a flower in the wind.

- Reference the idea of lightness almost etheral character dancing in the sky blown by the wind, wasting away.   - Dancing is used as a way to avoid the implications of the illness the character is ignoring that he suffers he denies what he has become through a permanent state of daze like if he was in transe, dreaming, flying dancer in the sky.

- The colour scheme is soft and clean    - soft lines    - detailed remembering print design    - Unitentionally the character is a child king as well ! useful to build up my own character.    - i would like to create a very illustrative project layout to balance the dark theme of my story with a innocent touch in the drawing style.

- dungarees is very representative of childhood and innocence/naive.   - Universal worn by builders and farmers and where then miniaturized as a a sophisticated garment for childs in the 1930's.   - It can be worn by boy and girl. - Links to the idea of creating a universal metaphore not constrained by a framed time or place. - But also links me back to my childhood in the early 2000 when dungarees were really popular and worn by me and my friends at school.   - Building up the visual identity of my character using dungarees as they represent well the naivity of the sufferer through denial   - Emphasize the idea that anorexia is often a unconscious aim to stay a child avoiding mental turmoil and physical changes brought by coming of age and adulthood.

-Not relevant to the narrative but i like that the colours of the uniforms meet the colour of the sky   - Interesting on building a colour scheme based on visuals for my story   - confounded sky and costume could suggest the child is wasting away from the illness.

- Relevant to the creation of a character in my story   - The idea of the child king (being served)    - However my project personifies the loneliness of the sufferer in anorexia so the child would be alone and not surrounded by people    - use the imagery of the child in the plane as a metaphore of a vulnerable sufferer detached from the world by being in his castle (the plane) controled by the voices of restriction and slow murder of himself.    Next  step represent the voices by a object/element maybe look back in African culture as the initial picture was from a African dictator private jet   -sense of privacy and therefore loneliness   -large empty spaces because only one person will be in the plane.

- Cartoon like clouds sense of surreality like nothing is real - gives also the idea of a dream - reference a idea of feeling numb/ out of the world in anorexia through the "fakeness"/theatrical appearance of the scenery.

- surreality, the colours of the sky are very saturated - sunset same idea of inbetween, preparing for night and darkness like the beginning of the end - refers to Salvador Dali paintings through the colors and details in the sky and clouds - interesting to consider surrealist paintings and symbols to represent the detachement created by anorexia from the real world - The plane seems to be going on a long journey in darkness wich is very representative of mental illnesses.

- No one knows where the plane is going   - no destination just the sky behind   - the plane looks fast cutting through the clouds. - Links to anorexia, the illness feels unstoppable because the sufferer is willingly keeps going - pushing everyone that tries to help/ the plane splits and pushes the clouds away - feeling of "destiny" every thing is undefined covered by clouds only the plane is visible going somewhere unknown; looking very determined.

-idea of surrealism the plane is so fast the sky is distorted   - the plane is the only thing you see in the picture nothing seems able to keep up with it not even the clouds   - almost frigthening how everything goes so fast around the plane it seems unstoppable.   - Links with the idea of using a personal experience  into the project I will developp it further in Reflection but I am going to create a metaphore using my story of suffering from anorexia nervosa using the scenery of the plane and the feeling of being detach from life/existing in surreal world.

- the plane takes almost all the picture, landscape looks very small   - pointed nose of the plane shows determination and the idea of being driven    - the plane looks like its preparing for a race    - idea of a key moment before leaving, the idea of separation between the plane on the ground and in the sky.   - a certain detachement from the world when the plane is in the sky/ very strong sense of intensity when the plane is on the ground   -on the edge between two moments preparing to fly.   -picture feels so heavy; is flying perceived as a good thing ? - this idea of two moments could be useful to the project; I would like to create a narrative set in the sky/ detach from the world and links it to my personal life through the personal experience we had to include in the project.

- personifies the idea of a space as a character ( here a airport)   - powerful overwhelming prescence the silhouette in the middle are looking so small   - very rich gold everywhere -importance of reflection the ceilling mirrors on the floor; idea of a dual vision to sides to something, could be useful in the narrative ?  - graphic lines almost like barrs trapping people in the photography.   - colomns gives a sense geometry everything is symetrical in the architecture; perfection   - almost sacralised, very big space dedicated to one thing (welcoming planes)    -ligthing golden like the atmophere of holly an revelation ?; Feels like a very important symbolic environnement : Either plane or airport.

- The emptiness in the photos like no one is there   - luxury but empty; like a abandoned castle   - the curves soft feel like the furniture is dancing/ alive    - the chair looks like a throne very present and strong   - the plane almost feels like a character of its own   - power coming through the images, white clean and perfect everything is refined and flawless.   - Hygenic and net.

- sense of luxury  - noble materials   -disposition of the furnitures  - spacious even if in an airplane   -confined/hushed   -holly feel from the "arch" at the back and the lines and the glow of the light coming from the sky outside   - looks like the stage of a theater because of the curtain and the empty space in the middle waiting for actors to come in.   - idea of "mise en scène" could be a good setting for a story ?

Everything is falling

Point of interest

Source : Visual imagery of the brain

- the castle/plane is a personification of the mind of the sufferer a bubble a enclosed space becoming a trap   - round shape of the brain reminds the bubble (idea of a coffin)  - the story becomes more absurd and abstract when it progresses: relevant to leave the figurative representation of the castle and bring in more abstract concepts   -i like the colours the details and the complexity of the visuals ressembles prints and could be useful to iniate design developpement.

Point of interest

- Trapped in a plastic bubble she cant get out of   - transparency visually subtle prison but surrounding and constrainig movement   - The idea of breathing in such a closed up space the only thing you can do - breathing will ultimately kill you because all the oxigen in the bubble will be gone.    - the bubble is almost like a coffin where you painfully exist before dying quietly and alone; very relevant to what the castle is in my story, the plane/castle is a metaphorical representation of the child body slowly breaking down and being taken away very far in the unknow where he will not be able to come back.

- Another fascinating way of using mathematics to create prints   - could try adding colours to each number and combining diferent time tables to create interesting prints playnig also with scale, association and repetition. - Try to find a way to make the story into numbers.

Print design process used by Kelsey Brooke

I will experiment with those two processes to create prints as I find them very intersting and relevant to my project portraying a medical issue (an illness as a poetic story).

Point of interest

Source : Kelsey Brooke, psychadelic space from the Csm library.

Brookes masterfully melds a deep knowledge of cognitive science and art to create bright, intensely detailed paintings that abstract drug compounds, molecules, atoms and hallucinogenic states to heighten a viewer’s sensory perceptions and reactions. His two main bodies of work — molecules and aesthetic abstractions — are created with a rigorous process of attentiveness. A process of focusing awareness on the paint that is lost from the brush as it is applied to the surface of the canvas, then refocusing attention as the mind wanders away; which provides visual evidence of both an artistic process and meditation in practice. Brookes’ molecular paintings begin as two-dimensional maps of the precise locations of individual atoms, molecular line drawings, which then expand and radiate out from these hyper detailed locations/focal points to cover the entire canvas surface. The result, but never the end result, is a colorful abstract representation of the subject molecule. Often, Brookes’ aesthetic abstractions are meticulously painted surfaces that are organically constructed or stretched to provide an overt aesthetic connection to Eastern contemplative traditions, such as Buddhism.

- I liked how each of the painting represented one drug like Serotonin or Lsd for example portraying the "high" the drug was bringing from the perspective of the user rather than using a outside perspective it makes me think I should represent the high of starvation through a print aswell using the artist artistic developpement technique - I like the colour scheme saturation and the impression of movement coming from the prints. - ambivalence between the prints being a representation of the brain or of the hallucination generated by drug use. - Extremely abstract but also meticulous in the process of involving a scientific inspiration from molecules into artistic expression.

Point of interest

- Surrealism and visual illusion - inspiring illustrative style, simple shapes and soft lines, honest vivid colours - reminds me of children's books illustrations fits well with the idea of creating a narrative implemented in the sketchbook layout, make the pages look like part of an illustrated poem.

- Very representative of my project as a whole, depicts accuretly the feeling of having anorexia. From the initial euphoria of starvation giving the sufferer the impression of being invicible and on permanent high like if he was dreaming to the blind denial of feeling wounded and sick but not realizing that there is no way (very hard to change) of getting back to his old life. To the final realization that the illness is like a huricane and that while it was giving a sense of control it from the beginning was a unconscious and slow suicide the last image shows how unstoppable it really is, represents the fatality linking back to the quote.

- Inspiring in terms of colour scheme for the project, its very faded evanescent.   - Suggest something oneiric.   - The sky is acting as a character, principal subject of the photography.   - the horizon line idea of a separation between two different worlds.  - looking at those visuals, the sky appears immense and infinite it really portrays the concept of my character (the child king) leaving for a long journey into the unknown.   - I think i will make the sky as a key visual elements maybe use the fading colours as an idea of wasting away ?

General comment :

Dali's paintings are also making me think of hallucinations while being under substance and of psychadelic themes in general because of surreality. It could be a very key atmosphere to bring into my work as it is a very representative visual of being detached, away from reality.  i will look more into that daze feeling brought by drugs and addictive behavior in general because ultimately anorexia is a way to cope with turmoil by being addicted to the numb sentiment created by deprivation of food. Addicted to starvation.

- Introduction of surrealist characters to represent detachement    - working on scale and page composition   - the sky as a character in the paintings setting of the narrative, a directive line to the story.  - The idea of time melting, my story is poetical and metaphoriacal, not set within a time frame.

- The painting feels like a complex story all summised in one image interesting way to think about my narrative because it puts everything at the same level not as a continuation of events (a staigth line) but more like a chaine a complete all in one page   - makes me think i should use very minimal text and write my story more like a poem   - I  like the caracthers in this image everything is changed from their usual state reality is being distorted to suggest the idea of a dream, reminiscent of fantasy art depiction of "Cauchemard" , the grass hopper is climbing on the sleeping face in the painting suggesting a form of control very similar to mental disorder when the suferer looses control to the illness and falls into a form of dazed and detachement from reality.

- Strong sense of power coming through the image, the tiger seem to be jumping to get out of the painting    - the painting is depicting one of dali's dream emphasizing the idea that nothing is real both in the painting and the story.   - Idea of being eaten very relevant to the story as an abstinance from food results in being eaten alive by your demons.    - The tiger is a very strong symbol of power as a dangerous animals often personified as a king it also reminds of wealth and luxury, interesting in the context of the painting because it shows that even the strogest figures cand get eaten (tiger eaten by a fish) - i liked how Dali played with the scale of the caracthers it could be interesting to use for print design ?

- Surrealism represents the idea of detachement brought by the illness, like the sufferer is in another world   - The setting is relevant to my story; the sky   - i like that the castle is now looking like a castle and not like a plane it show ambivalence and absurdity through metamorphosis and emphasize that the story is a metaphore and not supposed to be realistic   - the painting represents wild animals linking back to the african dictator from the photography.   - the biblical caracther in the corner brings back the quote about repeating something negative through the idea of unavoidable destiny " the choice of god", adds to the story  i am writting for the project symbolising how hard it is to not follow ed behaviors when you are suffering how it feels out of control and like a form of fatality.
