I began this project by considering memory and how certain places remail very vividly in your mind even if we have not visited the place in years. I decided to draw a map of Victoria Park Village from memory, this was something I used to do when I was a lot younger and still living there. I was surprised at the level of accuracy I was able to recall in regard to the shops and cafes etc when comparing my drawing to google maps. It was particularly interesting to note the changes to what I remember but also the significant building that I missed out, its surprising to see that things that were so prominent in my childhood such as the church at the end of my road, I had completely forgotten about.
At the end of the day we visited the Kings Cross site where we will display out work at the end of the week. Typically my work has been fairly minimalist and small however I thought that a piece of work in this style for this project might get lost in the space. Although the walls are white the floor is not and there are lots of other elements that would take attention away from a very simple, small piece. For this reason, I decided to create a larger piece of work in order for it to work well in the space.
